Dr. Kevin Smith is a founding member of the Ottawa Carleton Eyecare Centre, a private, comprehensive ophthalmology practice providing general eye exams, consultative medical and surgical eye care, emergency eye care, optician services and a private surgicentre. The centre currently staffs three specialist ophthalmologists (Dr. Smith, Dr. Jim Cameron, Dr. David Zackon) and an optician (Dick Pralow). The centre is managed by Ms. Debra Munro.
Dr. Smith's surgical specialty is state-of-the-art cataract surgery. He also enjoys refractive lensectomy and difficult challenges such as repairing traumatic damage to the eye. With subspecialty training in oculoplastics he has also mastered the art of cosmetic eyelid surgery including blepharoplasty.
Cataract surgery is performed at the renowned Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus Eyecare Centre along with non-cosmetic oculoplastic surgery, lensectomy, SLT, YAG and ALT laser surgery, and refractive phakic IOL. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is performed onsite at Dr. Smith's private Surgicentre at the Ottawa Carleton Eyecare Centre.
An oculoplastic surgeon is an ophthalmologist who has undertaken extra fellowship training in oculoplastics. The
oculoplastic surgeon concentrates on being an expert in one area of plastic
surgery, the eyelid. Expertise centres on surgical eyelid abnormalities,
tearing problems and cosmetic eyelid procedures.
